The Unikko mug by Marimekko was designed by Sami Ruotsalainen with a pattern design by Maija Isola. The Unikko pattern was designed in 1964, and even though Marimekko’s founder Armi Ratia banned floral designs from Marimekko products, Maija Isola managed to convince her of the Unikko design. And we’re glad she did! Unikko has become somewhat of a hallmark pattern for Marimekko and can be found on a number of Marimekko products.
