The Unikko plate from the Finnish brand Marimekko has been adorned with the ravishing Unikko pattern in graceful shades of beige and white. The plate itself was designed by Sami Ruotsalainen while the striking pattern was created by Maija & Kristina Isola. The Unikko pattern originally came into being in 1964 after Marimekko's founder, Armi Ratia, announced an all-out ban on floral patterns. Despite this, Maija Isola managed to persuade her otherwise with her stylized depiction of majestic poppy flowers — and thus, the Unikko pattern came into production, and has since that time been something of a signature for Marimekko.
